The Jamaican American Cultural Association, also known as JACA, is a Charlotte-based organization whose main goal is to provide educational assistance to children in Charlotte as well as Jamaica. This organization was formed in 1999 and was one of the main sponsor of Charlotte’s first Caribbean festival in 2000, over 10,000 people attended. In addition to providing educational assistance to children, the group promotes a cultural awareness in Charlotte through different events. The group consists of enterprising individuals primarily of Jamaicans who want to make a difference not only in the Charlotte community but also to give back to the Caribbean.

Scholarship - Requirements

  • Student(s) must be a resident of Charlotte, NC, and accepted to pursue a course of study in an accredited college or university. Students already enrolled in an accredited university and are within the four year undergraduate program (4 years after high school) will also be considered.
  • Student(s) must be of Caribbean decent or students who have made significant contribution through charitable work or otherwise to the Caribbean.
  • Student(s) must demonstrate good academics and good citizenship skills.
  • Students(s) must demonstrate strong school and community involvement or work experience.
  • This scholarship is a One-time award, and payable ONLY to the Institution the student(s) will attend.

Scholarship - Application Guidelines

Please complete the attached application and include the following information

  • A List of activities, honors and awards
  • A List of Community activities
  • A 500-word essay on how your Caribbean heritage has helped you to excel both personally and academically
  • A copy of your acceptance letter from the Institution you plan to attend or submit evidence of your enrollment
  • A notarized copy of your most recent transcript, including ACT or SAT scores
  • A notarized letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, school administrator or a community leader.
  • A photograph
